Rise & Fall of Practically Everything (1995)

The Rise and Fall of Practically Everything was recorded by the first incarnation of Jim Ocean’s musical satire group Celtic Elvis. The album was recorded at Emerald City studio in San Francisco in 1989 by the acclaimed engineer Gary Mankin.

Celtic Elvis toured the nation with this CD appearing in such legendary folk clubs as the Bottom Line in New York City, and The Birchmere Music Hall in Washington, DC, where the disk set album sale records in both venues at the same time. The band also headlined many large acoustic music festivals including the Winnipeg Folk Festival in Canada, and The Kerrville Folk Festival in the Austin, Texas area.

The CD features tight writing, engaging melodies and powerful four part harmonies. Musicians include Jim Ocean (vocals, primary songwriter and lead guitarist), Randy Anger (guitar and lead vocals), Marcy Straw (vocals), and Rich Wescott (bass and vocals).

A sampling of songs: ‘High on Stress’ takes a look at our crazy modern lives, ‘Sex-Crazed Intellectuals’ is a hysterical glimpse of the action at a college coffee shop, ‘Friends As White Noise’ sings about how we don’t listen to our friends best advice, and the epic ‘Love As Real Estate’ compares a dysfunctional romantic relationship to a house in dire need of repair.

All the songs on this CD are thoroughly road tested tunes performed for almost ten years of touring in front of many thousands of people.

Many of these tunes will be available as part of Jim Ocean’s upcoming double-album “Sarcology” project, due to be released in the summer of 2010.
